The second meeting commenced at Chaasht time [mid-morning to midday/after breakfast] and lasted about 1½-2 hours till midday. Now Hazrat spoke very openly; on stories of various Buzrugs, general Deeni advice, discussions on morality and spirituality, all in an enthralling, captivating and riveting manner. There was no semblance of dry sermons.
He asked Moulana: “Did you convey my message to the honourable guests?” What have they to say about it?”
I myself took up courage and responded: “Hazrat! There appears to be some misunderstanding. The request is just this much that Hazrat grants us some direction and counsel on selecting a Murshid. I presented this as well by letter some months ago. In our defective vision, of the few Buzrugs we have in mind Moulana Husain Ahmad Saheb is foremost on the list. Further, we accept whatever Hazrat instructs. This was what I wrote in my letter, and this is the reason for this safar.”
The matter had been cleared. Hazrat smiled and turning to Moulana he said: “Then what was that you said?” [In other words, Moulana Madani said that the two had come for bai’t whereas their intention was just to seek the advice of Hazrat Thanwi on who to become bai’t to.]
Hazrat then said to us: “Your choice is absolutely correct. I am wholeheartedly in agreement with it. Take bai’t at Moulana’s hands.”
“But I am totally unfit for this,” averred Moulana Madani. “Furthermore, with Janaab [referring to Hazrat Thanwi] in our midst there is no need whatever to look elsewhere.”
Hazrat Thanwi countered: “But their confidence is in you, and I bear witness that you have the qualification. You should take them into your fold.”
After this response, where was there scope for further discussion?!
