The Sight of Ashraf

Hazrat Hakeemul Ummat’s home was about 100 yards [91m] to the Khaanqah and Masjid. The Khaanqah encircled the Masjid. The place where we were lodged for the night must have been only about 10 yards from Hazrat’s home, and Hazrat’s pathway was that direction.

Out of eagerness I left very early. I stood on the side of the road to view his beauty.

Just a few minutes later my wish was fulfilled. A saintly person was coming. He was elderly, but beautiful in countenance. His gaze was lowered. His gait was dignified. His face was illuminated. His beard was more white than black.

Perhaps this Nooraaniyat [celestial brilliance] bore its impression on his clothes as well which were shining white. On his head he had a delicate single layer topi. He had a long kurta. It was delicate and exquisite, gossamer-like.

There was still some darkness in the sky. And I was at a slight distance away. We did not have the opportunity of mutual eye contact. I should say that I only had a glimpse of him. Then too the attraction, the graceful movement, the elegant dress, all together gave such an impression that maybe not my tongue, but my heart spontaneously called out:

قربان یک نگاہِ تو عمر ِدراز ِما!

I sacrifice my whole life for a glimpse of you.

Approximately 15 years have now passed by since that view. And it appears that it was just yesterday. Very seldom does a sight leave such a deep impression on the mind and such a heavy impact on the heart.
