Search for a Spiritual Mentor

I was searching for some time for a spiritual mentor (murshid). I studied a great deal of whatever stockpile of material on Tasawwuf and Sulook in the Farsi, Urdu and Arabic languages I could lay my hands on. After studying so many kitaabs and savouring so many malfoozaat the only wish that remained was to find a living Buzrug.

Centres such as Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Delhi, and Ajmer, Kalyar, Dewa, Basa, Roorki, Safipur, minor and major thresholds, Allah knows how many I surveyed! Upon listening and coming to know of any Buzrug anywhere I wasted no time in presenting myself before him. I saw passionate Buzrugs as well as dispassionate; excellent Aabid, Zaahid, Murtaaz [reverent, self-disciplined and exercised] Buzrugs as well as the fake long-haired type.

My heart said: “The Haqq is confined to Deoband. Narrow the scope of your selection and hone in on this circle. Grab hold of the garment of someone trained by that entity who wrote a wonderful commentary on the wonderful text of Sulook – Mathnawi Ma’nawi – and who blew the life and soul of Haqaaiq and Ma’aarif [Divine Realities and Mysteries] with his succinct and lucid sayings.” (This refers to Hazrat Haji Imdaadullah Muhaajir-e-Makki, Rahmatullahi alaih, who is the famous commentator on Mathnawi Shareef and the Shaikh or Shaikhush Shuyookh of the Buzrugaan of Deoband and Thanabawan.)
