Introduction

By default, no (deed is counted as) good or bad, it being (counted as) a good (deed) or a bad (deed) depends on the existence of an intention. If (the correct) intention is for a good deed, the intention is good (and the intention and deed will be rewardable). If a bad deed is intended, the intention is bad (and the intention and deed will be sinful). There is no reward or punishment for a deed without intention, but reward or punishment is written for intentions which are not acted upon. However, if a sin takes place by mistake, without intending the sin, it is pardoned. It is for this that Allah Ta’ala taught (us) this Du’a:

“O our Rabb, do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake”

Surah Baqarah #286

This discourse, pertaining to the repercussions and rulings of making the Dunya or Aakhirat the intent, was delivered standing to approximately 5 000 in the Muraadabaad Jaami’ Masjid. It took 2 hours, 5 minutes. Maulana Zafar Ahmad Saheb transcribed it. The name of this discourse (Al Muraad) is attributed to the name of the city (Muraadabaad) and the title (Tamyeezul Marghoobah Minal Marhoobah) is attributed to the name of a girl (Marghoobah); at whose Nikaah ceremony this discourse was delivered. (This discourse) serves as a recollection of this fortunate soul’s NIkaah. Part of this discourse was delivered before Jumu’ah Salaah and the balance was delivered after the Jumu’ah Salaah.
